Driving safely on single track roads is a skill rarely taught in lessons or assessed in the driving test and for the inexperienced it can be a dangerous nightmare. If you follow this advice you should be safe but even so, you can never be certain of the nut coming at reckless speed in the other direction. This is advice from someone who had a car written off by a speeding visitor and nearly lost my life in the process.

All the roads to the sites of the competition require you to drive on a single track for at least part of the way.

  • Remember we drive on the LEFT if you are not a UK resident, on a single track road all your instincts will work against you, be doubly careful.
  • If you can’t see round the corner go slow!
  • The gear you are driving in is too high, shift down and slow down.
  • When you are approached by another car wait in a passing place, there is always some debate as to who should give way, the general rule of thumb is that whoever is closest to a passing place does the stopping.
  • Be paranoid, seriously, especially when you have no visibility.

Good luck, it is not all that bad.
