Monday 7 April 2003 In stark contrast to the lovely day yesterday today was grey and driech. But for the sake of this record I donned wooly hat and gloves and went up to Finlaggan. Finlaggan, as you can see is a total contrast in other ways. Where the water of Loch Ballygrant is clear as crystal, here it is brown with peat. Ballygrant is wooded, here it is moorland. At Ballygrant there are few reeds, here there are extensive reed beds, and it is far more exposed. Access to the banks of Ballygrant is easy, here it can be a boggy and rocky scramble. |
There are some rocky beaches and there is a causeway out to the island. The top panorama is from the north end of the loch, the lower panorama gives a better view to the south from the island. To the untutored eye it looks like the loch is much deeper to the south where the hills plunge in. ‹ Loch Ballygrant • Loch Gorm › |
