A very picturesque village sitting under the Monroe mountain known as "the Cobbler" (3040 feet) and at the head of Loch Long so called because it is very … erm … a loch and very long. There are public toilets here right next to and adequate cafe, these toilets are only open during working hours, don’t rely on them after about 5 p.m. There are useful shops, cafes and a pub in the village At the far end of the village opposite the petrol station there is a small parking area worth a stop as a photo opportunity. The Cobbler is another well worn trail but more challenging than Ben Lomond and is part of the Arrochar Alps. This is a day’s walk and the views across the lochs and the Trossachs is superb. At the top is a structure called "the eye of the needle" for obvious reasons when you get there. |
