The rest and be thankful pass is another of those wonderful names that we have applied to places over the years, this pass is the best into Kintyre and much of the west coast but it is extremely steep and at the top travelers would rest and be thankful. The small waterfall at the top has cooled many an overheated traveler.

The first picture looks back along the road, the new road is a fairly gentle slope at the top left, the old road is visible as a silver ribbon which on the old days climbed suddenly and steeply to the top of the rest.

the second picture looks towards the west in the direction we are going. The scenery over the Rest is quite spectacular and it is well worth a stop.
