Tarbet – Loch Lomond

Luss Road to Islay Arrochar

Links to pages in the Road to Islay

At Tarbet the road turns sharply left to face Islay for the first time. There is a 40 mph speed limit through the village and there are frequently speed checks in the village. On the corner there is the Tarbet Hotel, I’ve never actually stayed or eaten there but is certainly looks impressive from its frontage.

Also from here loch cruises leave from a tiny jetty.

Around the corner there is a converted church which is now the Black Sheep cafe and craft shop. This is a good place to get coffee and a snack if you feel so inclined.

The Maid of The Loch sails along the banks of Loch Lomond. The Maid is one of the few paddle steamers still in operation in Europe and makes a pleasant day out if you want to see the loch. Here it is tied up at Loch Lomond Shores near Alexandria at the south end of the loch. In the background you can see Ben Lomond covered in snow on this lovely winter’s day. Picture by JJ
