Port Askaig is the destination of the afternoon ferry, a tiny hamlet of hotel, shop and a small cluster of houses. The ferry over to Jura also leaves from here, this provides an hourly service to Jura. The new Islay lifeboat is located here which provides vital cover for a large area of the west coast. The photograph on the right shows the corner of the harbour looking over to the ancient (and harmless) cannon that guards the approach to the village. |
The Jura ferry leaves from Port approximately every hour. Times of sailing coincide with the arrival of the afternoon ferry from the mainland.
