Islay

Islay is the southernmost of the Hebrides, and this is my site. I got here in 1989. In these pages I hope to show you some of her more attractive features and encourage you to visit. The picture is of me a few years ago now – I’ve grown gracefully older since.

Ray Husthwaite

I have enjoyed living here overall and these pages express some of my enthusiasm. I also have a separate page with more information on Husthwaites. This picture on the left was taken a few years ago – I’m much uglier now.

I teach Science at Islay High School.

The picture on the right is when I took pupils to see the lifeboat in 2002 at Port Askaig, the photograph was part of the fun. If you click on it you can see the full-sized version.

I’ve got 4 kids, I was born in 1954, I live in Bowmore. I live with a very nice lady from Lancaster called Julie.

I was born in Middlesbrough, was brought up in Wishaw, went to Glasgow University then University College of Wales; Aberystwyth (I lived in Macynlleth) for three years, was ten years as a teacher in in Kilsyth at Kilsyth Academy, I then moved to Islay. I’m a single parent three and a half days a week. I like horses and hate ironing.

Anne

I met a lovely lady in October 2001 and we enjoyed each others company on a regular basis for some years. The picture is of Anne at Kilchiaran during July 2002 when she visited the island. She has taken a real interest in this website and has translated much of the site into German. We are still friends.

Anne 

Jenn lives near New York. She was responsible in so many ways for the current look and feel of this site We were together for two years, while the site was developing, until 2001 and we remain friends. She contributed many of the photographs from that time and advised me to move the entire site from frames into tables, a mammoth task even at that time but it improved the manageability of the site no end. I also learned the value of cascading style sheets as a result of her advice. Without her input the site would not have developed as it has.
Janeann lives in Las Vegas and JayJay (Janeann) in has taken a keen interest in this site, most of my pages go under her red pen as chief and unpaid editor. She taught me the meaning of the word, “comma”, she also, contributed many, of the photographs, especially, in the “Road to Islay”, section, of the, site .

Wolfgang lives in Köln (Cologne) and has also contributed many pictures to the site.
