Kilnaughton beach

The beach at Kilnaughton is one of the most popular on Islay and can get busy at times, at the south end there is sandy expanses, at the north end where this panorama was taken it has rocky outcrops form the sand. The panorama runs from just to the right of the ruined chapel below through over 180 degrees across to the lighthouse at Carraig Fhada at the right. The full-sized image is a big download of over 300k but you will be able to see the coast of Northern Ireland in the far distance and the buildings of Port Ellen.

The car park at Kilnaughton is next to the graveyard and ruined chapel. There are some interesting carved stones in here.
For once this dreadful summer the weather was good and the beach was busy as you can see
The water here is shallow and safe for paddling, the kids were straight into the water with the waterdog.

At the north end of the beach is a ruined chapel and interesting pink coloured rocks
I’m still struggling with the focus on this camera close up – this geranium is a bit fuzzy but I like the colour.
