Claggan Bay on Islay is a wonderful beach a few miles along the south coast road from the Kildalton Cross. The bay lies within the Ardtalla Estate with the big house a short distance to the north.

All the pictures on this page will expand to a larger version if you want to see the full effect.

The northern part of the beach is stony, the waters pellucid. I am standing on the border of the sandy part, this is just visible in the foreground. As with most of the beaches on Islay you should not swim from here due to powerful currents.

There is a pleasant rocky hill that is good to climb up, from here the beginning of the sand is easily visible.

The road is narrow with passing places and runs next to the sea, in the distance the curve of the beach is visible. There was a family having a picnic and splash on this beach and I did not want to interrupt their enjoyment with pictures closer up.
