Bolsa Is one of the wildest and most beautiful of the coastlines on Islay (in my opinion, of course). There is no access by road and the only route in is on foot. There are secluded coves, deep caves, natural arches and a wealth of wildlife. Lovely. Come and visit and I’ll take you over there – but bear in mind it’s a whole day walk and covers around 12 to 14 miles of rough going.

All the pictures are thumbnails and lead to the full-sized image.

Nancy and I walk towards a natural arch Jack and Nancy, to whom I am indebted for these two photographs, visited Islay in 1996 and we walked out there on a wonderful day. That’s me with the rucksack by the way. The right hand picture is of Jura, looking across the Sound of Islay.

In 2001 Steve and Barbara visited. Steve walked out with me and took these pictures. Thanks Steve.

The full-sized pictures are all about 200 k but are so beautiful to see if you have the patience.

I have to say this is one of my favourite pieces of coastline in the world. The caves are numerous and deep and there is nearly always have a dead goat in them. The cliffs are superb, there are coves, spires and arches. Worth the walk.
